We contributed another guest post on the Family Equality Council’s Blog.

“I don’t wanna go home, I don’t wanna! It’s boring there and there’s nothing to do and there’s no beach! I wanna stay in Ptown!” Unfortunately, that’s not my five year old son complaining, that’s my forty eight year old partner. And I really can’t complain because, frankly, I agree with him.

Last Dance

On Friday evening we attended the “R Family” Dance and Kiddie Bop sponsored by R Family Vacations. Darius had been in a cranky mood until he started ingesting large quantities of snacks and M&M’s that were freely available for the grabbing whenever Dad blinked. His mood perked up but the chances of getting any decent dinner into him did not. He worked the dance floor trying to negotiate more glow sticks for himself and connected a long chain of them together.

They announced that Family Week was already scheduled for next summer. It will be Aug. 1, 2009 through Aug. 8, 2009. Looking forward to it!! :-)

The Family Equality Council has posted a picture slideshow about Family Week 2008 on their blog.

Darius made one of the shots, and toward the end there is a picture of the three of us at the Beach Picnic.

This morning after breakfast we decided to climb the tower in the center of Provincetown. I certainly got my excercise for today. Darius didn’t seem the least bit winded, and even asked to go up second time. Maybe next year. :-)

Pilgrim Monument

It's a long way up.

Yes, I know I didn’t post anything yesterday. We hung out on the beach most of the day and the pictures look exactly the same as previous beach pictures. Here’s a picture of Darius and I.

Dad's Gathering

Dad's Gathering

On Wednesday evening we attended the Family Week Dad’s Gathering.  It was a good opportunity to connect with old friends and make some new ones.  We’ve always enjoyed the Dad’s Gathering and attended each of the first two years we came to Family Week. Last year they did not schedule this event and we really missed it.  Glad to see it back again!

Our Family

Our Family

On Tuesday afternoon Brian took Darius to the children’s programming put on for younger children. During the program, the kids worked on creating collages representing their families. So Darius cut out pictures to represent each of us and I think Brian helped him with drawing in the cats. Each part of the collage was labeled with each of our names.

Interestingly, Darius picked out a picture of someone in a wheelchair to represent me. Brian asked him why he chose that picture when Daddy doesn’t use a wheelchair. His amusing response was, “I picked that picture because Daddy likes to sit all the time”.

I guess I have to get up more.

Family Week: One Family’s Perspective

We have contributed a guest post to the Family Equality Council Blog.

“Today’s guest post comes from Brian and Steven Bush-Frank. Brian and Steven, along with five year old son Darius, consider themselves to be just your ordinary gay, foster-adoptive, transracial American family. They are currently liveblogging their visit to Family Week 2008 at http://greendads.wordpress.com.

This year is our fourth year coming back to Provincetown for Family Week, and for us the experience just keeps getting better. We come back to get away from our hectic lives for a summer vacation as a family. We come back to enjoy the unique flavor and history of Provincetown. But most of all, we come back for the sake of our son.”

We’re at the beach picnic put on by the Family Equality Council for Family Week right now.

It’s great to sit and talk with good friends, watch all the wonderful families around us and enjoy some good food. This is exactly why we’ve come back to Ptown and Family Week for the fourth time.

There is supposed to be a bonfire later. I will try to post a picture of it later if we can manage the late hour with the 5 year old.
